Be Part of Type Won — A Documentary Series exploring the emotional reality of life with Type 1 Diabetes

Are you living with Type 1 diabetes in the UK — or the caregiver of someone who is? Are you open to sharing your emotional journey to help others better understand what it truly means to live with Type 1 diabetes?

 

We’re making 'Type Won' — a short documentary series that celebrates the strength, and resilience of people living with type 1 diabetes. Each of the five films will pair two contributors at different life stages, reflecting the evolving emotional and psychological impact of Type 1 diabetes across a lifetime.

 

We're looking for people who are willing to share their story — not just about diabetes management, but about life: childhood, identity, relationships, careers, parenting, mental health, and everything in between.

What is Type Won about?

Living well with type 1 is a double win — and that’s what Type Won celebrates. It's a series for everyone: for those living with T1D, for their loved ones, for healthcare professionals, and for the wider public. Our goal is to shine a spotlight on the often unseen emotional and psychosocial realities of life with T1D — while also showing the joy, humour, and strength within the community.

 

Who are we looking for?

We want to hear from people:

 

Living with type 1 diabetes, or their caregivers, in the UK

 

Aged 7+

 

Willing to share their emotional experience, both the challenges and the triumphs

 

Available for 2–3 days of filming, scheduled flexibly around your availability

 

Why take part?

This is an opportunity to:

 

Advocate for emotional and peer support in diabetes care

 

Inspire others with your lived experience

 

Educate healthcare professionals and the public

 

Support the next generation of people living with T1D

 

Be part of a meaningful, community-led storytelling project

 

You’ll be supported every step of the way, including access to professional therapeutic support. While there is no payment for participating, we will reimburse all travel expenses.

 

Who’s behind the series?

Type Won is directed by an award-winning filmmaker — and father of a 13-year-old son with type 1. Find out more here. It’s a not-for-profit project by the Type Won Community Interest Company, funded by Dexcom and supported by DRWF, diaTribe, DSN network, and Duet Diabetes.

 

The series will premiere on World Diabetes Day, November 2026, across major channels and platforms.
